PLA Strategy in a Taiwan Contingency

Learning from Hong Kong experience, education must be controlled by the central government to prevent foreign teacher infiltrations and anti-national curriculums in schools which was a main factor influencing Hong Kong students.

Another sector is media like TV, newspaper and Internet also need to be controlled.
China can allow the island residents control over their food imports. If they want to gorge themselves on ractopamine pork and irradiated fish, then they can have as much as their heart desires. Every other part of government is off limits.

"I'm not looking to have somebody go independent"

"But we're not looking to have somebody say, 'Let's go independent because the United States is backing us."

I think this moves the needle a tiny bit, but what comes still remains to be seen.

For reference, the key phrases in question are “We do not support Taiwan independence” “We oppose unilateral changes to the status quo by either side” “We oppose Taiwan independence”

No, Chinese leadership is waiting for nuclear parity. They know the US is willing to use nukes if they think they can get away with it.

Nuclear parity only works when the counterparty is rational, intelligent, sane and not part of a death cult. Can you honestly say that modern America fits that prerequisite? Would you bet your life and your entire civilisation on the assumption that mutually assured annihilation would prevent nuclear adventurism from the Americans?

If not, then the only acceptable response isn’t nuclear parity, but overwhelming overmatch and total domination.

That is not achieved through a stupid number of nuclear weapons, but from putting in place ABM defences capable of effectively mitigating an opfor full MAD launch and limiting the damage to within acceptable national survival ranges.

I think that is why China’s latest 5 year plan puts space tech so highly on its priorities list, as you can only realistically achieve that kind of ABM capability with a vast space based defensive network without spending a ludicrous amount and/or assuming unacceptably high risks.

Ground based missile interceptors are essentially the CIWS layer of your ABM defences. It’s useful for mopping up leakers, but cannot be relied upon as your primary defensive means, as eloquently demonstrated by the USIS-Iran war.

This lady is Taiwanese, so worth considering what she's saying.

Anyway from what I can see so far, pan-Green is still doing their winnism thing trying to twist Trump's words. Some examples:

蔡榮祥指出,have somebody go independent是指單邊行動、自行其是,而非政治意義上的宣布獨立。句中的 somebody 刻意保持模糊,並未特指台灣,同樣可以指涉中國採取片面的軍事行動。
So the argument attempted here is "go independent" isn't inferring to Taiwanese independence movement but more "acting unilaterally" and could just as well mean China taking military action against Taiwan.

Here the argument is Trump's line about "have the right president" does not mean he thinks Lai is not fit to be ROC president, instead he is saying the right US president.
(What the hell, that means Trump thinks himself is unfit to be US president???)

Here is DPP support accusing SETN (quintessential green media) of taking money from the CPC and misleading the public with their reporting of the trip.

So yeah, there's a lot of increasingly contorted mental gymnastic happening

I don’t understand why they act surprised after Trump has been essentially trampling the so-called Democratic norms for the past year.

seems the bridge is near the mouth of the Tamsui River, the river that flows to Taipei ?
Danjiang Bridge opens to traffic as crowds stream onto landmark crossing

according to Gemini Ai :

"This is the most critical reason. The Tamsui River is the direct, aquatic highway straight into the heart of Taipei (Taiwan's capital).
In a conflict scenario, the river mouth is a prime target for an amphibious invasion. By keeping the Danjiang Bridge low to the water, Taiwan's military ensures that large enemy warships, landing craft, or captured commercial vessels cannot sail up the river to drop troops off in the middle of the capital. It acts as a permanent, physical barrier."

Taiwanese "Freedom Fighters" are performing tactical training with airsoft guns in air-conditioned rooms. They also "marched" around the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall.

ROC Taiwan already has conscription and real boot camps, so why not enlist? But no, that's not good enough for these bunch of boba lib losers. They wanna look cool doing airsoft tactical trainings and talking tough in air conditioned rooms. They must think that they're so ready to take on the PLA.
