I heard rumors of the .338 machine gun. Is that still a thing?
The new GPMG (QJY-201)using 7.62*51 NATO-like rounds (in the video) are rarely appeared in any official PLA video(almost zero)

Except for the rumored small-scale trials by the northern border troops (China-Russia or China-NK)

There is also a saying by someone that the Army would rather buy more new HMG (171) than new GPMG which has no ammunition reserves

If the newly commissioned ZBL19 coaxial machine gun is confirmed to be of a 5.8mm caliber, then this is basically a death sentence.

If you have a machine gun that can be hauled around relatively easily I don't see why you can't consider it general purpose. Except maybe the .50 rounds weighs too much for foot infantry to carry?

That's 7.62 NATO, not .50, and I believe it is considered a GPM.
