Thinking on it some more, I do wonder if maybe they are using it as a high magnification recording device rather than as an optic since that looks like an ATN x-sight copy, so it should be able to capture and record the hits way better than a GoPro thanks to its much bigger and better optical lenses.

The images are from a magazine article, which discusses ways to improve the accuracy of existing QBZ-95 rifles, given that they will still be around for a while.
First it needs to show that it can be done. Then it's a matter of obtaining domestic optics that optimized for 5.8mm ballistic. Do try to remember how many years (more like decades) we've griped about China's lack of ACOG type optics until QMK-152 shows up, thus perhaps this and the next year's police gear expo in Beijing we may have some new optics that optimized for China's own domestic caliber?
Perhaps due to sourcing of kits at hand? Likely the said outfit (?) assisting the said article has a few foreign kits / optics available (as part of evaluation or trial) and they assemble the concept-proving setup(s) for the cameras?
