Why is China sending an all women contingent as their peacekeeping force to South Sudan?
Because they kick ass, that's why!

Only 13 of the 700 are female.
China's first peacekeeping unit to South Sudan held their oath-taking ceremony in Jinan Military Region.
The peacekeeping battalion has around 700 members with added focus on specialised personnel such as communications and medical personnel. The battalion consists of 3 infantry companies and 1 reserve company.
Vehicles include "Fierce Warrior" HMMWVs, MRAPs and Type 92s. Especially noteworthy are the equipment of individual soldiers, which include QBZ-95-1s, flashlights, goggles, body armour (chest, groin and neck), elbow and knee pads, radio on left shoulders, multiple pouches and accessories with identical camouflage, and various tags/emblems/insignias.
I wasn't sure what to call those 'armoured cars'. The Chinese term is "装甲运兵车", which means armoured personnel carrier but I took one look and decided they were anything but APCs so I downgraded them to MRAPs. But now, it seems they're not even well-armoured enough to be called MRAPs.

Not doubting the translation, just referencing it and looking at the pictures I see everything but true MRAPs. There are what looks to be armored HMMWVs in addition to the regular ones. Interesting to see these rather than the other 4x4 armored cars (ZFB05?) previously deployed with PLA UN troops. Also interesting to see that they are not skimping on body armor in such "sitting duck" type UN missions.
