Yu Qiang, bedding-and-clothing staff officer of the Logistic Engineering Academy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), completed the information collection of military uniforms for 200-odd new cadets with a new-type intelligent body-measuring and uniform-size-selecting device in only half a day on September 3, 2012. The device was independently developed by the Quartermaster, Materials and POL Department of the Joint Logistics Department under the Chengdu Military Area Command (MAC) of the PLA and has greatly improved the efficiency of size measuring, which used to be done manually.
The device is composed of such components as measuring helmet, ultrasonic height-measuring probe and foot-measuring instrument. It is built in with such advanced technologies as infrared data capture, intelligent fingerprint identification and mechanical information sensing. It can automatically capture the measured data of human bodies and automatically calculate the sizes of military uniforms for the persons being measured.
"It takes only more than ten seconds for the device to accurately measure the data of human bodies and rapidly match the appropriate sizes of military uniforms," said Zhao Fugui, director of the department. The device has obtained a national patent, and its application has improved accurate bedding-and-clothing support, making it more fast and efficient.
