So the before Christmas rumour and source is debunked. Wait until Chinese new year perhaps and we could maybe see a flight.

Did all this really get set off by a lawn maintenance notice? Then some twitter names and pla watchers jump on the bandwagon.

Was thinking since the start that it will be Mao day (26th)

I mean if they let it be photographed, that means they want a public reveal. So the "first" flight (in reality it has almost guaranteed flown in hidden areas, at night etc) is a semi public PR event. These are often made to be either on national day or 26th.

Definitely a PR event to let it be photographed. Almost certainly not the first time it's flying. They will not let experimental aircraft that's never been flown, go around a major city in front of potentially millions of eyes and camera lens.

A reveal is intended no doubt. No idea on when they'd reveal it but I think it's worth remembering how often maiden flights go wrong and why it's not suitable flying near dense urban centres. No one else does that. China doesn't either. Dunno why so many on this forum really believe CAC is allowed to do this. They would have proven it's airworthy and safe enough to fly around the outskirts of a major city.

Okay let's be more clear. Do you guys really confidently believe that J-20 had flown before January 11, 2011?

China did not choose to do test fly near dense urban area. They chose to do test fly at CAC facility which during the years happens to be gradually engulfed by growing city. It's simply they have not (or deemed it's not worth it) make the decision to relocate the facility.

Yes, some form of early j20 would have flown before Jan 11 2011 in my opinion.

Is it impossible for this to be the case? No. Does it make sense to do it for safety and secrecy? Yes.

I am of the type to underpromise and overdeliver. Having said that, these guys have been talking some mad levels of hype and expectations. I hope it doesn't disappoint.

Besides, I doubt we will get to see the juicy details for a long time anyway. Exciting times.
