I think this was the first time China deployed special forces in live combat situation.
Blue Sword-B was just one of the larger and more well-documented operations of the “Two Mountains period”.

Reconnaissance (or special) units were already involved in the commando's flank surveillance and reconnaissance operations since 1979, after the establishment of the reconnaissance battalion in 1984, they just more actively participated in the frontal assault.

Are those melee weapon actually sharp? Asfaik, the melee thing with india has been mostly blunt weapons
Not purposefully sharpened, but is sharp enough to puncture a hole if pressed with body weight and some speed. Like this one.

It is as sharp as the famous Chinese bayonet 三棱刺, that is not sharpened at all. The tip of the bayonet is quit dull that you can touch it with your fingers and even put pressure on it without any danger.

I remember a neighbouring kid in my childhood got his hand punctured when climbing over a fence with decorative tips like this.
