Back in 2008 I was able to do this kind of commercial shooting in Beijing. Went there with some friends and fired off hundreds yuan worth of assaultrifle rounds.

Was it a private gun range or was it affiliated with any government agency?
PLA, at least the guy who organized the trip said it they were cleaning out old ammo cache, don't remember too many details though.
We have a range here in town...most towns in the US have several.
But we can also go out into the hills around town on public land and just shoot into the sides of hills, or banks of dirt.. Here's an example:
Really can't do this in Germany though, tight control overall.
Anyway, that shooting range in Beijing also had the Chinese made Dragonov and heavy machine gun, we didn't try the machine gun, since we already blown enough money for that one day.
