I am surprised they are still upgrading the type 86 , looks like a new gun with rwsArmored columns.
That is not an upgraded type 86. it is a type 90 personnel carrier, from an era when the PLA would just make do with whatever they could get（the chassis of a type 89 personnel carrier with the turret of a type 92 wheeled IFV）
Similar vehicle and “obstacle” clear device was used by the US in Afghanistan to clear IEDs.The inside of an obstacle clearing vehicle.
In some Afghan villages, it was used every quarter of a mile because the army was so afraid of IEDs. Entire Afghan villages were destroyed, so soldiers could advance a quarter of a mile at a time.
