Here's wondering if the KJ-500/A units will be upgraded to KJ-700 standards by swapping the triangular-array roadome with the dual-array rotodome in the future, plus other associated changes...
IMHO very unlikely, it's changing most of the plane's worth.
Furthermore, rear side arrays may not be standalone, but rather part of the whole. I.e. just changing main rotating dome with their associated backend and probably crew compartment is not enough.

Not like KJ-500 are already worthless. ;)

The question is will they sell the KJ-200s to partner nations to boost their capabilities, or just retire then?

I remember the crash of the prototype years and years ago due to some icing issues

originally 5 were in service with the Air Force and 6 with the Navy with a total of 11 operational

KJ-2000 the 4 x Midas Tankers and KJ-200 were the first advanced set of AWACS China operated

then came the KJ-500 and now the KJ-700 and KJ-3000 replacing the KJ-2000

not to mention the Carrier KJ-600 AWACS

I recalled someone asking in this thread about the KJ-500's relative size to the E-7 sometime ago.

Here's a direct comparison between the two. Kindly ignore the detection range figures provided.

Any comparison of total availability of power to the radar itself? my guess is that E-7 will have significant power available to the radar considering it has turbofan engine (2x) compare to KJ-500 with turboprop (4x)

Interesting of comparison between E-7 and KJ-500. There are 60+ KJ-500 in service while there is none E7 in service with USAF (which would be expected in 2027). Would it be better to compare it with much improved KJ-700 ?

Will KJ-700 have better thrust that KJ-500 ?
