I suppose this is a interim solution untill either a Y-20 or a C-919 based platform is available.

Does anyone know how many Il-76's China has in her inventory at the moment ?

I doubt we'll see an MPA based off Y-20, C919 is more likely.
But I think it's worth keeping in mind that GX6 will be quite a large and capable MPA in its own right, and despite the shift in the USN and JMSDF towards jets for MPAs, there is still a role for turboprop driven MPAs, and their competitiveness really depends on the mission systems and the crew aboard the aircraft.
That is to say, GX6 will probably be no more an "interim" solution to the PLAN than the KJ-200 was, and I foresee it to be built in large numbers. Two, three dozen at least.

I'm not sure exactly how many they've got currently, but in 2010 they ordered 10 refurbished Il-76s in addition to their 14 or so Il-76s at the time. At this point I think deliveries are over halfway complete

Another shot

A very nice looking aircraft

It is being reported that the 4th unit which is still in China is under going additional installation of equipment to enable it to communicate with Link 16 units

My personal understanding is that the ZDK-03 will rely the information to a land based system which will then covert and rely to Western fighters like the F-16 and that it won't be a direct communication

I could however been mistaken let's wait and see

I hope PAF can purchase more rotodome AWACS from China now that more advanced KJ-500 units are operational with PLAAF
