The first of 1300 Russian troops arrived last Thursday in Jilin to help prepare for the joint Sino-Russian anti-terror exercise, which are due to start on July 22nd and last for 5 days. The exercises will include an equal number of PLA forces.

Russia will also send an airborne assault unit, according to the Defense Ministry.

It is not clear if this is part or in addition to the original 1300.

All in all with 2600 men, it looks to be a pretty sizeable exercise!

more news on this, doesn't mention su-27 here, but I'm pretty sure it is coming

Russian and Chinese forces involved in the Peace Mission 2009
exercises will hold their first joint training on 17 July, Lt-Gen

Aleksandr Studenikin, deputy commander-in-chief of Russia's Ground
Troops, has told Interfax-AVN.

Studenikin who is in charge of the exercises for Russia said that
separate trainings would be held on 16 July.

He said that five train-loads of hardware had already been delivered
to China and that five Su-25 attack aircraft and five Mi- 8
helicopters were on their way to Qiqihar airfield.

The drill will be held in China and Russia on 22-26 July.
Interfax-AVN quoted Studenikin as saying that the exercises will
involve a total of around 3,000 servicemen, over 300 pieces of
hardware and over 40 aircraft.

A landing-assault company from a separate landing-assault brigade of
the Far East Military District and a separate motor-rifle battalion
will take part in the exercises.

It's supposed to be an "anti-terror" excercise, whey did they bring T-80 and Type-99 MBT to such excercise? Are they really expecting to have tank battles with terrorist groups? ;)

Well there are large numbers of heavily armed men, most of whom are foreigners to the region, terrorising millions in a country just across the border;)
