China Successfully Synthesize New Nuclides Berkelium-235 and Americium-231. The superheavy nuclei research team at the Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)—specifically the State Key Laboratory of Heavy Ion Science and Technology—along with their collaborators, have successfully synthesized the new nuclide Berkelium-235 (Bk-235) and its alpha-decay daughter nuclide, Americium-231 (Am-231), for the first time. This achievement was realized using the accelerator facilities at the National Laboratory of Heavy Ion Accelerator in Lanzhou.
Unit 2 at Jinqimen Nuclear Power Plant begin's construction.
Another milestone has been reached. China is now (or VERY close to it) the world's 2nd largest producer of nuclear energy.
This claim might be subject to debate. China has more nuclear reactors in operation than France....but France might have slightly more GW of power depending on which website you want to believe. However looking at the pace of construction, and looking at how many reactors scheduled to go online by the end of this year, the debate will be over.

China began construction on 10 reactors last year.
China has been the second largest producer of nuclear energy since 2020:
Think it comes down to France using some nuclear reactors not just for baseload (100% operation while available) but also for balancing power.
As for becoming #1, it looks like the current batch of constructions will more or less achieve that, which should be around 7 years:
