Good effort bladerunner, but I think Its time for me to take it from the top.
the headline was of course highly satirical and returning a very particular style back to its originator.
The story is about the demise of the News of the World, a UK Sunday Tabloid owned by Murdoch and which was famous/notorious for salacious stories and scandal.
Dirty Digger - the Fleet St nick name for Rupert Murdoch - it is a beauty as it combines the Aussie salutation Digger with "Dirt Digging" a common term of abuse for the Journalistic occupation.
Screws the Screws - Screws i) as in your screwed! - finished, beaten, washed up etc and Screws ii) short for News of the Screws, the official nickname of the News of the World and a reference to its constant output of celebrity sex scandals.
naughty - standard tabloidese for those doing things they should not, usually in salacious connotation.
nipper - child, young person
hack - newspaper reporter
hacking - same as in the real world.
Saucy Red Top - Rebekah Brook (nee Wade) was a gift to the industry with her pouty flirty manner and red hair, Saucy simply means cheeky and flirty, while Red Top has been the generic name for Tabloids for decades (on account of their names printed in white against a large block of Red Ink, as opposed to the Broadsheets (serious papers) which printed their titles in Black.
.......... of Shame - standard Tabloidese for those caught "at it".
The last sentence is actually quite filthy and returns to Mr Murdoch what he has been happy to dish out to everyone else for decades.
The story of course is that Rupert Murdoch has closed the News of the World after revelations that its reporters were hacking into peoples mobile phones and bribing police officers for information.
This actually has been bubbling away for years in relation to the phones of Politicians and Celebrities, but turned toxic when it was revealed that they also tapped the phone of murdered school girl Millie Dowler and actually tampered with messages left on it. It then followed that the phones of the parents of two other murdered little girls "Holly and Jessica" were also hacked, as indeed were the phones of family of British Servicemen killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Rebekah Brooks was Editor of the NOTW at the time and is now Chief Executive of that part of the Murdoch Empire and everybody believes that she cannot pretend to have been unaware of these activities or claim not to be ultimately responsible.
A former Editor Andy Coulson has already been arrested in relation to his involvement, which is causing Political embarresment as he resigned some years ago for NOTW over this matter and worked for David Cameron as his communications Officer, until just a few months ago when the scandal forced him to resign again.
Read orlabart it! but not in the News of the Screws!
