NEXGEN CRUISER as a carrier killer

I will be short.

1.The current chinese economy is a "external-oriented" type.

2.The rising asian superpower will threat the egemonic position of USA (and also some EU powers).

3.The USA may use any possible excuses to pose an embargo on China(free Tibet!), and get rid of all the debts.

I think PLAN really need to find a way to threat the US Carrier Battle Group in blue water.
PLAN SSKs have not enough endurance, current PLAN SSN are not enough silent, and the future PLAN carrier cannot match the numerical superiority of the US ones.

So, if the new chinese anti-ship ballistic missile system really works, why don't create a naval version? It would be a much cost-effective solution to couter a carrier battle group in open sea.

I'm not a ship designer, but I've made some concept cruiser.
Just have a look, and tell what's right and what'ss wrong.

Since this is just a concept and not real. I've moved this thread to the Members Club Room

What are the dimensions of this ship? Crew size? With the way the hull is shaped I don't see much room left for the crew.

there are other things.. Like where are the engines? Back aft? That's not going to work because of the weight of the powerplant. They need to be more amidships for balance. And the way you have the exhaust stacks mounted will make it a nightmare to work in the helo hangar.

As I said I'm not a ship designer:p

Any way, the size of the ship is modelled on the PLAN LHD 071.
So it's a 20'000 tons class cruiser

I don't think The exhaust stacks will not touch the heli hangar, since there is 15m of space for the heli-hangar.

interesting! although I disagree such cold war thinking, but I appreciate this concept.
in the real world, Russia' s Varyag missile cruiser could be carrier killer, if China build a missile cruiser like Varyag but stealthy design, that maybe work.

:D

But a Varyag class cruiser maybe spotted by some E-2 AEW before it enters within the range of fire, and it can't provide target acquisition by itself.

What's the giant waffle iron on top? Some sort of mount for sensors? I don't know if that will make it stealthier. Perhaps better to go with a more conventional mast that's been covered, like the Type 45.

Also for inspiration, look at this:

To my knowledge the Giuseppe Garibaldi is the only surface ship ever to have been configured to fire ballistic missles.

That's a pretty good idea I think. If the radar can be less obstructive and put some LACM's, SAM's and future weapons like rail guns or lasers on it then I think it would be a good counterpart to the Zumwalt..

Nice job!! :D

No matter how muchinsulation is bewteen that bulkhead and the space/compartment it is next to it is going to get very warm where ever those exhaust stacks are mounted.

More weapons mean more magazines and compartments to control those weapons that equals less space for the crew. The crew's comfort and well being should never be short changed.

As for any comparison to the Zumwalt..the USN may never build a single ship of that class. Right now plans are to build more Arliegh Burkes and re-fit the Ticos. I think only two or three Zumwalts may be built. Possibly zero.

Nice model, although i think the radar could be integrated more into the superstructure

i think ship simniliar to this is feasible
