Aren't magnesium shavings quite flammable? Might that be an issue for some use cases?
It isn't pure magnesium like those thin strips you're thinking of. They are often alloyed with various metals.

Origin Quantum delivers a quantum computer core equipment dilution refrigerator to China's 985 universities

Recently, Origin Quantum successfully delivered a domestic SL400 dilution refrigerator to a 985 university in China. This move not only accelerates the pace of self-reliance and self-improvement in quantum computer technology, but also takes a solid step towards solving the problem of "stuck" foreign quantum computers.

Origin SL400 domestic dilution refrigerator The dilution refrigerator is one of the key core equipment of superconducting quantum computers and can provide an extremely low-temperature operating environment close to absolute zero for quantum computers. In addition to the field of quantum computing, dilution refrigerators are widely used in cutting-edge technology fields such as condensed matter physics, materials science, and deep space exploration. Origin SL400 domestic dilution refrigerator is the first achievement of the R&D team of a Chinese scientific and technological enterprise to successfully break through the key core technology of ultra-low temperature refrigeration for quantum computing, and has reached the level of international mainstream products. This dilution refrigerator can provide an extremely low temperature environment below 10mK and a cooling capacity of no less than 400μW@100mK. The cooling time is within 30 hours and the heating time is within 24 hours. It can meet the extremely low temperature operating environment and rapid speed of superconducting quantum computing. Rewarming requirements. International suppliers of dilution refrigeration machines are dominated by European and American countries such as the United States, Britain, and Finland, forming a long-term monopoly. The delivery of the Benyuan SL400 domestic dilution refrigerator demonstrates my country's determination and strength in independent innovation in the field of high-end scientific research equipment manufacturing, and is of great strategic value for building a safe, efficient, independent and controllable national scientific and technological innovation system.

Aqueous batteries use water as the solvent for electrolytes, thus much safer than traditional lithium ion batteries, which use flammable electrolytes. But aqueous batteries have low energy density compared to traditional lithium ion batteries. Two teams of Chinese researchers, in cooperation, developed a type of aqueous batteries with high energy density.

Just about the large cranes it created that is used to install wind turbines.

Another one is pilotless mining trucks it has developed

finally about the battery factory with Fudi that just started production.

Great progress for XCMG

I do not recall seeing the following article posted. It focuses on Apple using Chinese entities for higher value components in its devices even as it moves some production to India. Since it discusses the (likely) use of DRAM and NAND manufactured in China, I think it is relevant enough to this forum to post.

This breakthrough has wide range of applications in Aviation and Aero engine industry ..

A team from Tianjin University has developed a super-strong aluminum alloy that can achieved unprecedented tensile strength (~200MPa) and creep resistance at temperatures up to 500°C ..

a professor at the School of Materials at Tianjin University, and his team recently developed a new type of oxide dispersion-strengthened aluminum alloy, which increased the service temperature of the aluminum alloy from 350°C to 500°C, overcoming the difficulty of aluminum alloys at 400°C. Difficulties in application in high temperature environments above ℃ .

The relevant research results were published in the journal "Natural Materials" under the title "Heat-resistant aluminum alloy reinforced by hyperdispersed oxide".

According to reports, oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) alloys are cutting-edge high-strength materials for extreme environments such as high temperature and radiation-resistant applications. So far, scientists have developed ODS alloys of reducible metals through chemical processing methods, but due to the challenge of uniform dispersion of oxide particles, there are no commercially available non-reducible metals (i.e., Al, Mg, Ti, Zr, etc. ) of ODS alloy.

He Chunnian's team proposed a strategy to obtain ODS aluminum alloys containing highly dispersed 5 nm MgO nanoparticles through powder metallurgy, using nanoparticles with in-situ grown graphene-like coatings. Notably, the densely dispersed MgO nanoparticles have a fully coherent relationship with the Al matrix, which can effectively suppress the interfacial vacancy diffusion, thereby achieving unprecedented tensile strength (~200MPa) and creep resistance at temperatures up to 500°C...
Excellent high temperature stability

According to the paper, this processing method should be able to disperse ultrafine nanoparticles in various alloys for high-temperature related applications.

Professor He Chunnian said: "This new process is simple, has low material costs, and is easy to produce on a large scale, so it has significant industrial application value . We are cooperating with industry leaders and scientific research institutes to develop durable materials for aerospace engines and important aerospace components. Research on the preparation of thermal aluminum alloys and vigorously promote the industrial implementation of this material.”

China’s third generation independent superconducting quantum computer: “Origin Wukong” successfully achieves four calculations in one

Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

According to news on May 6, according to the Anhui Provincial Quantum Computing Engineering Research Center, my country’s third-generation independent superconducting quantum computer “Original Wukong” was invited to connect to the Wuhu cluster computing power public service platform in the Yangtze River Delta hub to achieve general computing, intelligent computing, "Four calculations in one" of super calculation and quantitative calculation.
This is the third supercomputing center connected to "Origin Wukong", which will effectively enhance the platform's application breakthroughs and public service capabilities in traditional computing and various industries. The platform can fully link the capabilities and resources of computing power supply, application development, operation services, users and other parties in the industrial ecology, and promote the large-scale application of domestic quantum computing power.

Previously, Origin Quantum joined forces with the Shanghai Supercomputing Center, the National Supercomputing Zhengzhou Center and China Mobile (Suzhou) Software Technology Co., Ltd. (China Mobile Cloud Competence Center) to launch the quantum super-converged advanced computing platform in August 2023. It has been connected to "Original Quantum" "Wukong" quantum computer.
In April this year, “Original Wukong” officially entered the national supercomputing Internet platform.
It is reported that as of May 5, my country’s most advanced programmable and deliverable superconducting quantum computer has attracted more than 7.77 million visits from 119 countries around the world and successfully completed more than 178,000 computing tasks.
"Original Wukong" is my country's third-generation independent superconducting quantum computer, equipped with a 72-bit independent superconducting quantum chip "Wukong Core". This chip is manufactured on China's first quantum chip production line and has a total of 198 qubits, including 72 qubits. working qubits and 126 coupler qubits.
"Original Wukong" matches the third-generation quantum computing measurement and control system "Original Tianji", which is the first batch of automated testing of quantum chips in China. The overall operating efficiency of the quantum computer has been increased by dozens of times.
