We are already seeing the applications for a 5G economy being developed. From industrial applications like automated logistics to consumer entertainment. I think the ability to view a sports game from any vantage point and controlling it from your finger tips is very compelling.

If the CIA knows, not sure what would that mean. The CIA is many things, heroes to some, scoundrels to most, but they are not in the telecom business, or network installation and applications business.
CIA may be involved in side businesses, but telecommunications equipment and software built on top of that, that is not them.
The US government and US corporations, they do not know their competitive position. They know they are behind. How far behind, they do not know.

I saw some others post about Huawei HarmonyOS as a big deal. Actually the OS is kind of minor. What we consider "Android" outside of China is really "Google Play Services". This is the integration between email/maps/app store/messaging/phone-calling that Google provides to Android separately from the OS itself. Since Android is technically an "open" system, these can be taken out and replaced as needed. Since Google has the most extensive mapping and app store, there's no desire to replace these elements outside of China. However, if Huawei Mobile Services can become a mature product and used by vendors besides Huawei, then perhaps Google's dominance in the space can be challenged.
