Call me when US no longer attract more foreign talents to its shores than any other country. I know it'll be a loooooonnnggg wait, maybe in my great great great grandchildren's time. Maybe.

The US is great enough to survive the mismanagement of Donald Trump and his cronies like Steve Bannon, Peter Nevarro, and Stephen Miller. Full stop.

Wake me up when the US no longer needs to attract foreign talent to be great. Propaganda can only go so far.

Did they at least comment on the clean air and blue sky?

The air quality has been discussed very often, especially among the Chinese who just arrived in the US. I am sure they would take into account of every variable that they can think of when they make their decision, including political environment, economics, food and air, and their own unique family situations, etc.

However, as a PI discussing with my associates about their work, I don't think I should include these aspects unrelated to work.

True, but Blackstone here needs to hear it for the sake of his "god" and the Taiwan regime sanity.:D;) That everything in CPC run in China is bad.

Oh come on now, Equation! You have enough evidence to know I don't tend to commit all-inclusive or all-exclusive fallacies. Besides, I'm positive of the millions of things comprising the CCP, reasonable people might be able to find one or two items that are not all bad. ;)

So far, the only person here who's credited you with good logic is yourself.

That'd be 1 or 2 items more than what they could find with America's current leadership.:p

I work in a very culturally diverse environment. After a while, you find out that the situation is not as black and white as you have learned in school and watched on TV.

I work with some of the smartest and most educated people on earth. Many of them have traveled extensively around the world. I myself who have lived in China and the US am considered as a "lame duck" by many of my colleagues. These guys do "continent hopping" every 5-8 years. And many of them are history buffs and learn as much as possible about local history whenever they move to a new place.

As you can most likely appreciate, many of them have very complex and very sophisticated views of human culture, history and politics. And it would be very difficult to brainwash these guys as they have been exposed to so many different views and different versions of the same stories. And their views on West and democracy are not as clear cut as you would have imagined even though many of them are Christians and were born and grew up in Western countries. Many of them mentioned that they were "forced" to change their original views of the world after being exposed to so many different views. It was first shocking to them to learn how different the world actually looked from what they anticipated (obviously based on their education).

You can say that my colleagues sound like a bunch of liberals. But think about how they became liberals. Not because they were told this was the only way to go. Not because they saw it on TV. But they use their own judgement based on Their education and their extensive global experience. Now I am not saying they are absolutely correct. But I am saying they may have a point that deserves to be listened. And their views may have their own logic and should not be discounted simply as some idiotic hippy tree huggers. Keep in mind that these people are not some hippies who spend most their time dancing in the forest and smoking weed.

A little disclaimer. I am not saying I belong to this group of amazing people. I have the brain and the education to match with the best of them, but not the most important part: experience. I have so little experience living in different places (spending the past 26 years living around Houston, Texas). I usually look like an idiot when my colleagues start talking about their amazing experience with different cultures in the world. I literally become a mouth breather because my jaw drops so often when they tell their amazing stories.

Then one of them pulled out an offer letter from a major Chinese university. And it includes a position of associate professor with US$ 3 million initial startup funding, a full list of advanced equipment waiting to be used, a moving compensation including close a US$ 200,000 to help him buy a new house. I said "wow". That was it. What else could I say? The situation for scientists in the US is getting pathetic, simply put...

China has been doing this for quite a while and not just in the sciences. 15 years ago, we had a good friend in Minneapolis who was a world class pianist, as was his (then) wife. The Chinese Government offered them a house, car, driver, cook and stipend. All they needed to do was teach piano to the best Chinese students and train them for international competition. It was an offer too goo to pass. He is now Artistic Director for the Shanghai Conservatory.

Nothing wrong if you can attract talents at a global level. I had read this Chinese article claiming that part of USA's success comes from the "exploit" of world talents. Question is: as long as you're NOT posing at a gun at those talent's heads or kidnapping them (you know and I know it's impossible), it still turn to be a game of how to. Money surely is a critical factor, but not work. It is an inevitable responsibility of country leaders to take on this matter.

I agreed, but it is also the responsibility of the country leaders to make those foreign talents feel safe and welcome as well. They will not come or stay for long when you have a rising racist right wing groups interfering with daily life and pushing laws to go their way.
