Not naysaying the importance of HPCG, but it was developed after Tianhe won the top spot of Top500 in June 2013 and the first list of HPCG was out in 2014.

Interesting. LOL.

I guess the Chinese were slow to catch on.

....continuing from above.

Interesting thing is when Tianhe-2 was at the top in the June 2016 HPCG listing, we don't seem to hear so much of it. :D

I suspect the K-computer, which still has the same number of cores as previously, must has been upgraded with faster memory chips for it to move ahead a whisker of the Tianhe-2 in the Nov 2016 HPCG listing.

...

Aughhh, it's ranked as #1 in November 2016 according to the chart you had posted.
LOL bro you missed my question:

see November? apparently the same computers, but now the Chinese shows the same figures as in June, while the K took the lead with 0.60 peta, so ...

hey SamuraiBlue what's happened to the K in the meantime?
some upgrade?

Don't know. They could have just tweaked the BIOS or the equivalent for better overall performance.
With that many cores they can do a lot by optimizing the data steam between CPUs.
I am more surprised the Chinese computer wasn't able to raise their results.

I love how when China ranks high on a Western measurement all of the sudden it's not legitimate. Saying and doing are two different things. Saying that they're going to have whatever says more it's about superficial titles. What better to shock the world than to show you already have it. This is like when I read Indian headlines claiming to beat China... in the future.

"Been there done that"......he he youre the man I Luv it.

I think I've said enough here recently
(I guess it'll be fun to read it in five; ten years from now :)
and see what direction supercomputing takes: towards one zetta

Haven't you heard yet. There has been an embargo on high end chips for use in top Chinese supercomputers not only from Intel but Nvidia and AMD as well. Tianhe-2 was then about to be boosted to 110 petaflops which would have left the K-Computer in the smoke in whatever benchmarks they can come out with.....

In an aggressive move to curb’s China’s advancements in supercomputing the US government has proceeded to ban sales of high end Intel, Nvidia and AMD CPUs and GPUs for use in Chinese supercomputers.

This development came to light as Intel was preparing to ship high-end Xeon E5 Haswell based processors to refresh the Tianhe-2 supercomputer belonging to the Chinese government. The plan for the Tianhe-2 supercomputer was to upgrade its computational capability from 33 petaflops to 110 petaflops reports the

. However the US Department of Commerce barred Intel from shipping the processors required for the upgrade citing worries over nuclear weapons related research.
