That's what I was about to say. For the selected few who are competent enough to serve their country, it is actually glorious die on one's job post (although this is still discouraged during peace time), as demonstrated by countless medical staffs in Wuhan during the outbreak. Thus, staying up until 2AM to finish a research project is nothing compared those who worked themselves to death during emergencies. For Chinese citizens who truly believe in the CCP's ideology, it would be sweet (if not a privilege) for them to be martyrs. As the last sentence of the CCP oath states, "be ready at all times to sacrifice my all for the Party and the people."

However, not all Chinese citizens believe in the CCP's ideology 100%, just like not all Americans believe in maintaining liberal hegemony through military power 100%. Just think about BLM, Antifa, etc. in America today. They don't want to die for the establishment. They want to overthrow the establishment if given the opportunity. Then in China, you have pro-west liberals, feminists, business elites, and civil servants disenchanted with the system, etc. who are either neutral and subtly voicing dissent against the Party-State system. Thus, only the most ideologically devoted (to the status quo power, ideals, and system) ones would be "stupid" enough to selflessly sacrifice in name of honour, duty, and fatherland.

Cooperating via self compromising to stop a upcoming threat is not "Stupid", maintaining zero covid society not only help the country's economy, but also helps secure the manufacturing hub status of the nation, it ultimately benefits the citizen. self sacrifice has always been the status for higher valued characteristic of a society. Over working at 2am should be an act of self motivated, not state encouraged, people have the right to enjoy a 9 to 5 job with 2 or even 2.5 days off each week, but they also have the rights to over work themselves for the greater cause, but when the nation is under threaten by outside factor, the nation as a whole's interests should always be put on top of the personal interests, as every citizen not only have the rights, but also have the responsibility
