Are you sure? Because externally other than a few extra satcom antennas and maybe a new MRS, I don't think there is any significant modification otherwise. Not even moving the headlamps to the tracks and covering that bit up with ERA. Major changes that was expected like APS and RWS are all not present.
I always thought the PLA was rather conservative with naming and usually assign a new designation only if there is some significant modification.

If the new designation is true then high chance it has a new hybrid power back under the hood? That kind of modification could warrant a new designation.

Apparently via Yankee's livestream, Type 99B might have a significantly upgraded powerpack as the original Type 99A was notoriously known to be rather unreliable.

They need to add the troop transport upgrade or gatling gun upgrade for anti drone.

Gatling for anti drone ? Would be better with a puntgun a bit like what they have, the GL-6 . Look more like a subsystems upgrade but people have some news about a change of engine, maybe with a silent mode ?
