I don't get it, since the statement sounds contradictory. If any ship can supply the islands there is no point in making a ship dedicated to resupplying the islands. Futhermore if a ship can resupply the islands, there is no argument that says the same ship can supply ships.
One can always check the smaller islands through Google Earth. No need for guess work. You won't find shelters in these islands which means they're not inhabited. It seems only two islands are constructed in a way to assert presence there, and one of them is dominated with an air strip that is its most obvious feature, an air strip there that to be of some use. Islands that are inhabited and with shelters, are big enough to have the entire ships moored in piers, and even smaller ones can accommodate a boat 20 meters in length.
The entire assertion that the ship is meant to supply islands is based on the assumption that is the purpose of the small boats on top of the ship. Whoever made that assertion in some Chinese forum obviously didn't take a look at these islands, their nature was, and made a guess, assuming that these islands look like as if they're from an episode of Lost. The PLAN has ships that have about four boats on top of them, and they're meant for tender and rescue, which I think is what the purpose of the small boats on top of 888.
What seems even more striking is that the distance of these islands to the Chinese coasts, even if they have to be supplied from small boats (still has to be big enough to carry some cargo with enough volume of value), is that these boats can go directly to these islands without need to be piggy backed from a large ship. After all, you got Chinese trawlers right off the coast of Somalia.
Sorry if I sound like ranting on an insignificant topic.
