Hello all. My online alias for this forum is 'skorf' (we live in interesting times in the Western world, I have no illusions about the potential reach of mass surveillance in the West, but I take comfort in the fact that my political views can't be charged as illegal activities... yet). I was born in China but moved to the West at a young age. I am a junior doctor in the West at the moment. I read extensively and have a decent academic background. I am interested in moving back to China, not for any monetary factors, I am excited by China's progress of development and would love to contribute towards the positive development of Chinese society.

I would like to learn hanyu, I am fluent in conversational Chinese with my parents but I can't read or write. I understand being a doctor in China is not as comfortable or well paid as it is in the West. On the positive side, my parents are supportive of me and, like myself, am not ashamed to be Chinese and we have a couple million dollars (in our country) worth of assets, mostly in property. My parents and I immigrated initially with maybe a thousand dollars of assets, and we have obtained our wealth through hard work, frugal saving and consistent investing. We also have relatives in China who we keep in contact, mostly working or middle class.

I am humble enough to realise I am not anywhere near talented enough to be a Qian Xuesan or Ren Zhengfei, but, it is 2025 and Chinese dreams are well and truly alive. I am thinking of eventually studying in China (which would be realistic from a financial point of view) and hopefully eventually getting a job there. I have an interest in AI.

I have not introduced myself here so I thought I should put here the note of my departure.

When a traveler finds a place to his dislike he is always faced with two choices. He can either spend time and effort to change the place for the better or he can leave so that the place does not change him for the worse.

Initially I found this place to be of much interest. Then as my time here passed I started noticing troubling elements but being who I am I thought that that was nothing that couldn't be overcome. Over time however it has become clear to me that this place is not, and would never be Edoras for it always has been Isengard. Only I was fooled, or perhaps chose to fool myself.

As such only one outcome here is possible and it is not something in which I should partake. And I hate the thought that this place could influence me more than it already did. For the only influence that I feel is one that I revile. There are already too many Sarumans in the world and every day more seems to spring up angrily from the ground like the Uruk Hai.

I like to end with a joke so I will only say that the time to light my pipe and walk away will never be more proper than now. So here it is.
