Good article here about the impact of Huawei bringing harmonyOS and intelligence to electric two wheeler. They believe that Huawei is not too late. Even with incumbents like Niu technologies & Ninebot, putting Huawei tech in TailG two-wheelers can be very competitive, but obviously higher cost.

Says that China's electric two wheel sales in 2022 is 50 million and likely to be around 60 million for the next 3 years. So a lot of opportunities still.

It is not about Ford getting CATL technology, It is how easy CATL is willing to give accessed of its technology to others. Western, Japanese, Korean, and Taiwanese companies have made China to jump through hoops to obtain even second rated and old technology.

CATL is giving up its technology too easily which is a problem for many Chinese companies. Companies don't safeguard their technology would pay a heavy price. The problem is the US would try to deny China for even old semiconductor technology but CATL is willing to share its most advance battery technology. It says a lot about Chinese companies being naive and foolish.
Ford is unlikely to gain any of CATL's LFP-making know-how. It's a licensing arrangement.

Step 1: get CATL to build LFP batteries on US soil.
Step 2: Label CATL a national security threat and sanction it.
Step 3: Take the CATL factory and profit???

When a western company is competing with China on price, they have already lost.

It is licensed but I don't know how much CATL controls over the technology.

“Ford has control — control over the manufacturing, control over the production, control over the workforce,” Lisa Drake, Ford’s vice president of EV industrialization, said in a briefing with reporters Monday. “We’re licensing that technology from CATL.”

for consumers purchasing an EV. They’re expected to meet local production requirements but not material sourcing rules for the batteries, he said.
This is all you need to know. it will not qualify for the sourcing rules for the batteries, which means it will still be using CATL's supply chain in Asia (mostly in China). They are license the tech. You may recall from China's auto JVs how well the local Chinese firms were able to move beyond Western tech. hint: not well at all. So, why are you concerned about losing tech to Ford of all companies? They are just licensing the tech while being entirely dependent on CATL's supply chain. This is great for China Inc. Knocks the door open to North America while Ford is willing to keep using the Chinese supply chain.

Even more than this, LFP and other battery technology is rapidly changing every year. CATL will keep staying in front of its competitors. If it's worried about certain core tech, just don't share that tech with Ford. but frankly, I don't see anything that important in LFP. What they use in 2023 will be obsolete by 2025.
