New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in China

BYD has officially announced that prices for its advanced driver-assistance systems will increase starting May 1, with no changes to the specifications, citing rising costs as the reason.

This move comes as a major surprise, given BYD’s decline in first-quarter sales and the intense competition in the domestic market.

It shouldn’t be a surprise , prices in China are already too low enough. Car makers/companies have to make some profit , can’t be selling at barely break even for too long . There should be a minimum at least . Hopefully many other EV companies will go bankrupt and others be taken over by bigger players so the market and prices can stabilize to a reasonable extent . The race to the bottom needs to stop. Moreover, memory prices and others have risen a lot due to AI boom and Iran war issues. So I think it’s reasonable for them to raise prices . Afterall, their profits have fallen by over half recently .

Out of Spec Reviews brought in Diego Pareschi from BYD, who was formerly with ABB, to verify their ultra fast charging in China. They used a dirty Denza Z9 at a public spot and finished a 30% to 97% charge in just over 8 minutes. It really shows the performance because it hits peak speeds even from the mid range where charging usually slows down, and it keeps that output all the way through high SOC.

They just need to move sales from foreign brands to Chinese EV brands. There is enough market share for all Chinese EV brands, if foreign brands are removed from the Chinese market.

Chinese vacuum cleaner maker Dreame unveiled the Jet-Powered EV supercar Nebula NEXT 01 at an event in San Francisco yesterday.

The concept EV is equipped with dual solid-fuel rocket booster system that enables a 150-millisecond ultra-fast response time, generates a maximum thrust of 100 kN, and delivers a 0.9-second acceleration in 0-to-100 km/h, and came with 1,900 HP Quad-Motor EV powertrain. according to the firm.

Yeah, no, this is giving off major Hengchi auto (Evergrande) and Faraday Future vibes. The same ludicrous claims from a company with no prior experience in the industry, likely trying to scam funding from local governments. Several provincial secretaries (Henan, Hunan, and Guangxi) appeared in the news trying to attract automakers to make investments. Won't surprise me if some tier 3 cities in those provinces fall for this kind of scam again. If you don't believe this to be a scam, just check out what Dreame claimed during their launch event earlier this year. You are honestly better off believing I'm Qinshihuang than their claims.

A major reason for BYD's profit loss was the exchange rate, the appreciation of the RMB alone ate up more than 4 billion RMB in profits.

If the bloggers/newspapers you follow don't mention this and jump directly to the conclusion that BYD/Chinese EVs are finished, then you don't need to read this; they're just another foolish parrot.

Actually, many so-called foreign brands use Chinese batteries, Chinese battery management systems, Chinese electric motors, and even employ a Chinese local design group to satisfy local Chinese requirements.

Dude competition is good, why should anybody remove other brands from the Chinese market? Domestic brands should simply outcompete them out of the market like smartphone and electronics players did . If they can’t completely displaced foreign brands I their own home local market then they are not competitive enough
