I don't think it's that simple. I think people need to understand that as powerful as China has become it's still going up against the west (not just the US) which is still very formidable so it has to tread carefully. It has to use its weapons of retaliation sparingly because every time it does so (even if it's justified) it will give the already suspicious west casas belli to close ranks and have a go at China which will put China in a difficult position. Besides, China has so many people it needs all the jobs it can get and going after investments in the country every time the US goes after China will be counter productive. Besides, this economic war the US is trying to wage is only going to hurt itself in the long run, what we're witnessing is the Sovietization of the US.

What you said about being careful would have made sense, if the west was not united in its attacks on China. But they mostly are. I would say Europeans are even more hostile to Chinese these days than even the Americans. If you look at current European leaders like Von der Leyen or Kaja Kallas, they are extreme anti-China.
Europe has already put tariffs on Chinese cars. I don't think they will stop there. I think they will try to entirely shut out chinese cars by hyping up the Chinese car security threat.
Europe already used this security threat excuse to mostly kick out Huawei. They have also put export controls on China on many fields and they have blocked any kind of Chinese investment on European companies.
I don't think being soft makes sense in the current political climate. It should be full on attack mode against both US and Europe.
Nah….doing that will only unite them more than they are now. Trump has caused some divisions among Europe and the US relationship and it will only accentuate itself this coming 3 years during trump presidency
So it’s better to let things play out like that instead of making things that will draw more attention to China and unite the US/Europe .
As I said before , Chinas handicap is that China doesn’t really have any real ally unlike the US. There is no country I can think of that will toe Chinas line as an ally if push comes to shove. US power and influence is not only in her capabilities and power on its own(we can agree that they are still the most dominant country on earth ) but it’s more on her ability to have built a solid group of powerful allies around the world. Allies that are not economic backwater or failed states but economic powerhouses in their own right. Plus the US has formed a deep economic, technological , and military interdependent relationship with these countries so much that they don’t even see themselves without US support . That’s the real power of the USA. They have done a superb job in this regard. Something I don’t think China can achieve even this century to be honest, simply due to the country’s political system and ideology as well. So I guess China will maintain her own trajectory and focus on her economic development and stay away from foreign involvement which is not a bad thing actually, as long the country keep growing and thriving .
What you mean is China doesn’t have the abilities to spy on all the elites of its vassals so if anyone who doesn’t follow Uncle Sam’s command will be taken down with a simple leak of some embarrassing info to the propaganda department.

I have an issue with your use of the word “allies”. You speak as if American vassals have a choice.
Did Canada and Mexico have a choice when deciding if they should put tariffs on Chinese cars? Do the tariffs benefits them in anyway?
Did Japan and South Korea agreed to give hundreds of billions to the US without any chance of getting them back willingly?

The western world is currently tearing itself apart, why give them a reason to unite against China? Even if they put all the tariffs they want to they are not as globally competitive as China is, it will just end up in a situation were western citizens are going to be forced to buy high priced goods. You do not want another Cold War scenario, just let them keep lashing out in a corner.
