"Volkswagen is prepared to let Chinese electric carmakers take over production lines in its struggling factories as Germany’s automotive industry is struck by a downturn.

Executives at the car-making titan signalled they would be open to tie-ups with Chinese rivals to use up some of the excess capacity in their factories as they scale back production."

One of these sets of conditions inspires customer confidence, and one of them undermines confidence by making it look like the brand (a) lacks confidence in the durability of its components and (b) is seeking every opportunity to deny warranty claims and will probably try to screw you over in other ways that are not immediately apparent.

Fast forward to today...

BYD has one of the more confusing warranty offerings in Australia, but that could soon change.

The Chinese auto brand backs its products with a six-year/150,000km vehicle warranty, an eight-year/160,000km high-voltage battery warranty and an eight-year/150,000km drive unit warranty, however, other components have shorter, varied periods – some as low as six months.

When asked whether the BYD brand could move away from its current aftersales offering, BYD Asia-Pacific boss Liu Xueliang told CarExpert through a translator: “We would take that into our consideration.”

“That is already under consideration right now.”

Glad to see someone is paying attention!
