That only works if the Western alternatives are clearly better. If they are not, it would be unsustainable over the long term to ask people in other countries to buy inferior products at higher prices. The actions against Huawei worked only because it was a single company.

If these reports are true that the US will target the entire EV sector then it won't just be one company. It would be against an entire ecosystem. I criticised a few Chinese OEMs like BYD for investing into Nvidia platforms a few years ago, saying that this put a huge mark on their back. These companies should have learned their lesson to complete de-risk their supply-chain by moving away from US suppliers.

But as so often is the case, the US govt has a wonderful tendency to force these lessons on slow learners inside corporate China.

Huawei 5G products and smartphones are clearly better than western alternatives.

i didn't realize this is possible, but Wuling just came out with mini SUV w/ only 50kw motor
this thing looks kind of cute, but I definitely would not want one.

Aesthetically and in terms of power output it seems comparable to

which has long established a niche as a kei-class off-road vehicle. This Wuling vehicle certainly wouldn't have the same off-road capabilities, but reportedly the Jimny also has a secondary undeclared market segment of young, often female buyers looking for compact city cars with good visibility and unique styling. This Wuling vehicle would presumably be addressed to a similar market.

Here is a tricked-out version I saw in local car park a couple months back.

On the back there was an upside-down sticker that read something like: if you can read this, please turn vehicle right-side up. :D

Chinese are more single mindedly business minded oritented people to be honest..even the government. So they may often forget to consider some of this political issues. Reason you still see some Chinese car makers still choosing to rely or invest in US chip brand like Nvidia systems despite the US government already showing them that they will ban them whenever necessary like they did with many other Chinese companies already.. So you will have to wait for the US to ban them altogether to see this Chinese brands finally move away from them.
It's same in the nuclear field, with China still.planning to be using US nuclear designs to build their nuclear power plants even from 2028 onwards, instead of only focusing on their own hualong one design..the day US decides to sanction them as well in this sector with their designs and operations then it will surely affect China's many nuclear stations running on US designs and technology. So there again they will wait until the US takes that measure.

Together, we will provide professional and attentive sales and after-sales service support through a local network of dealerships who share our ambition to provide the best customer experience.
Said Michael Shu, General Manager and CEO of BYD Europe and International Cooperation Division

The launch of the brand will take place during the month of May with the arrival of three 100% electric models, the expressive and dynamic C-SUV BYD ATTO 3, designed with the European consumer in mind, the 7-seater SUV with 4-wheel drive BYD TANG and the elegant and sporty BYD HAN sedan.

According to Salvador Caetano Auto, bringing this brand to the national market will contribute to its growth and to more sustainable mobility.
