Helmet airbag - China's car makers are at the forefront of auto safety now. Huawei-Chery's 2026 Luxeed V9 minivan will be the first vehicle in the world to be equipped with such an airbag.

The Maextro S800 achieved over 4,000 deliveries this month: single-handedly outperforming BBA (BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi) plus Porsche.

I checked out this vehicle and along with China's other most high end luxury sedans like the Nio ET9, Polestar 5, Hongqi Guoya, Yangwang U7 sedan, the Maextro S800, like these top tier models make the German trio + Lexus feel a century old.

It takes about half a day to go through the functions of each of these vehicles. Literally will take you have a day to go over everything. Each seat has loaded (and exceptional) massage functions, heating, ventilation (cooling) and every form of adjustment plus quality surround sound tuned and built into the seats... for every seat. Everything is no expense spared. It's frankly a crime to not be selling these all over the world where tastes permit.

Even the luxury sedans a step down from this tier like the Denza Z9, Nio ET7, XPeng P7 are a match for Merc S Class, 7 Series etc. Can't match prestige and brand power but has 3x the features and quality appointments. Even Merc S Class models don't provide things like rear seat heating, massage and ventilation. Don't even think Germans will offer triple chamber air suspension like Chinese premium cars. The German players barely even offer air suspension and sometimes cheap out on multilink set up specifics when you move to entry level models.

Chinese market loves the big SUVs so there are ultra luxury SUVs galore. It's such a shame how little known it is about how much better these Chinese cars are and for the number of years these cars have been setting the standard.

Every feature and idea that Cadillac, Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Lexus etc are introducing now in 2025/26 have been done by Chinese cars since 2020. Every single idea and innovation. Not a single thing unique to Euro prestige in the luxury segment. Everything less informed people think was invented by a Euro brand now has long been done for at least a generation by Chinese car makers, from ADAS to features to appointments. Performance is another story but EVs naturally outperform anyway.

I think a very telling sign is all the mainstream auto publications trying to get their hands on Chinese cars to review nowadays.
It's pure market demand, if they do not get these cars to review, they are just left in the dust by YouTubers showing off silly but catchy things like lights synced with audio.

20 years ago, it was customary to pump out articles about how crappy Chinese cars were like this one

We look forward to getting hold of one of these vehicles to verify some of these remarkable claims, but in the meantime we’ll have to amuse ourselves with the notion that BYD calls this car a “dual mode hybrid” because it can run on electricity alone or on a combination of battery power and internal combustion. Hmmm…

To be fair though, the cars weren't great, but there were some people paying attention:

On another note
Maextro is a brand belonging to JAC. VW has some equity in JAC. VW has a joint venture with SAIC and is producing the new AUDI series. VW has some equity in XPeng. Stateside they basically hold Rivian's future in the palm of their hands. I find their strategy very unclear. Wonder what the end game is...

Speaking of AUDI, it is now "Chinese Envy"
