New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in China

It's happening what we predicted will happen. Car companies who based their development on American Al chips are going to get hurt in short term
AIChip is a Taiwanese company, not American. This is just related to TSMC. This delay was going to happen one way or another at some point.

The developed IP is shared between companies.
I think the biggest issue is the potential waste of time and money AND STILL get banned, time and money that the company could had put in other markets like the Gulf or Latin America or researching other stuff.

Huawei invested billions in R&D in Europe and many years trying to create 5G technologies that meet European standards, it had plans of opening manufacturing plants in Europe and still weak Europeans politicians decided to bow down to the stooges in D.C demands to waste years development into the drain.

Galileo, China was invited to be part of the project and invested millions in the project just almost a decade later to kick out of the project by again cucked EU politicians at demand of the stooges in D.C. If China decided to built their own network from the start, it would probably be more mature earlier.

Wingtech and the UK is another example.

I don't think any money was wasted in EU. They already made a lot of money there, so that is a net gain. Huawei benefited a lot from supplying 3G+ (HSDPA) and 4G deployments. That is about 10+ years. They are still making money from servicing contracts.

As far as Galileo was concerned. In the end China got the last laugh.

Since China launched first and claimed those frequencies, they have priority under the ITU rules.
There were negotiations, but it was suspected that China was angered by the EU over Galileo, so they went ahead and launched without any agreements in place.

We should also understand that Beidou was always a military project first, so the issues with Galileo did not impact it. This is why they were able to launch before the Europeans got their crap together. China's main objective with Galileo was mainly to make money launching satellites and open a door to further cooperation.

This is off-topic, but I think it is interesting to know, so I hope the mods allow some leeway.

Indonesia BYD plant to be built out later this year and have eventually max capacity of 150000. That may sound like a lot, but will BYD really have trouble getting 15% local market share? I don't think so. Plenty of room to grow here.

BYD Indo is definitely stalling on the launch of new models. Sealion was already selling in Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and India...yet it's not launched here yet. Either that or BYD misread the Indo market, CUV and SUV sells better here than sedan.

Nah, more of market characteristic.

Beside, the current prices of BYD cars...as I see now, is still too high to compete against Toyota and Daihatsu's offering. SEAL is going for like 42k USD and M6 is 24k USD? . The best sellling models are like Toyota Avanza cost 18k USD, Daihatsu Sigra @ 11k USD.

BYD as it is it now, is priced to serve the niche premium market segment not mass market.

that's because it entered those markets first. It takes time to build up sales network and add new models

Stella Li on BYD's huge R&D team. just huge.

Very interesting that they had increased sales in Mexico to more than 8000 a month by December. That makes Mexico their second largest overseas market.
Often overlooked aspect of EVs is the pollution aspect. Mexico City was once one of the most polluted city in the world due to geography, you can't move ICE cars out of the city but you can move generation. In that sense the government has every incentive for people to purchase EVs as it will vastly reduce the amount of air pollution within cities. South Americans are a practical people, BYD delivers a good product and they will buy.

Here I compared Xia to D9, Dreamer and GL8. Xia looks like the best deal.

CDMX is not one of the most polluted city in the world actually. I've been there multiple times and pollution never bothered me. A lot of the Asian cities are worse.
