China will develop on her own distinctive path like she has done for four millenia and this means integrating domestic and foreign ideas in a gradually evolving way.
Many younger chinese members of the CPC (all of them with higher education, some with degrees from european or japanese universities) are fascinated by the socioeconomic and political system of Singapore.
Although reforming the CPC into some kind of ´giant´ Peoples Action Party (PAP) will be a truly herculean task they feel that only with a reformed party apparatus similar to the lean, efficient and strictly meritocratic PAP the daunting problems (social, economic, strategic) of the coming two decades will be solved. Additionally Singapore (after all with 80% of her population an ethnically chinese republic) is also a model of a clean judicial system holding the disease of corruption in tight check and providing the whole poulation with an excellent education system, medical care and internal security (very low crime rates!).
May be that my estimate will prove wrong but I predict that after the incoming fifth generation of leaders will have consolidated their grip onto power after 2012 they will introduce swift systemic reforms and they will take their blueprint from Singapores´PAP and perhaps also some ideas from Russia´s ´controlled democracy´.
