Vulcan's second launch was a success this morning and could clear the way for two more National Security launches before the end of the year.

Nice turn around for ULA with the Vulcan program! Gives the US another Heavy Lift launch vehicle in addition to the Falcon Heavy. Also a boost for Blue Origin and the BE-4 engine program. It won't be long before the first launch of New Glenn adding yet another Heavy Lift rocket to the market.

So within the next couple of years you will likely see Falcon Heavy, Vulcan and New Glenn operating in the Heavy Lift launch environment. Outside of that you will have SLS and Starship operating in the Super-Heavy Lift market, though SLS is only really there for NASA purposes.

BE-4 was able to compensate for the sudden loss of thrust from the SRB anomaly and complete the mission which was good. Centaur V also burned for about 20s longer than usual. So it seems the vehicle has robust margins built into it.

It is pretty incredible how it’s able to recalculate its burn times and angles on the fly. That centaur stage is a beast, likely most powerful and efficient upper stage in use right now.
