Partial reason is that hollywood is now producing s**t. Look at the quality of Marvel movies before Avangers4, and look at these crap they make now. Only Marvel movie worth watching after Avengers4 is Spiderman No Way Home.
Things like the matrix 4 and top gun 2 are just insults to classics.
At present, Russian modern war movies are quite eye-catching.
Realism is far better than the rambling dreams of Hollywood writers.

"Лучшие в Аду/The Best in Hell" is the most popular movie recently.
At least better than Tom Cruise driving the F-14 down the Su-57.

Top Gun 2 can earn amazing box office revenue in the United States, which makes me very suspicious of the appreciation ability of the American audience

It's kind of hard to beat a movie like that for realism when they just use straight up the actual weapons used in the war for the film.

Actually that's not 100% correct. There was a scene depicted in that movie that called for Russian T-72BM, the film crew didn't have access to one so they got hold of a T-80 of some variant and used that instead to play the part. So the tank they used in that scene in the movie was actually better than the tank that took part in the actual event depicted.

It's already viewable on YT, too!

I'm actually quite shocked at how completely devoid of notable entertainment output the continental Europe is.

The original top gun is not good at all, I don't remember being engaged at anytime during watching. It has the subject matter going for it, otherwise not much going on.
The sequel is an objective improvement in everyway, but being generic Hollywood wank, you already know that they are do the stupidest thing imaginable on impulse and everything turn out to be perfectly fine because of the power of love, friendship and self-belief.

[snip]
There's not a lot, but there's been a few in recent years that have been more or less well-received by the mainstream audience, if not as successful financially as their Hollywood competition, that are mostly riding on the international successes of certain European actors such as

with Noomi Rapace etc.

And ofc there's a slew of Netflix intl. productions like the German series

Stuff from other outlets like

People tend to frown on the Jin Yong movie versions of novels, but I have usually enjoyed them since I just take it as another take of a story or a semi-parody. Covering 40+ tv episodes into 2-4 hours will never look pretty. Donnie Yen is directing and staring in another remake of demi-god semi-devil.
