Movies in General

Phew !!!! I had images of it being a sorta remake of Disney's "The Little Mermaid" before I viewed the trailer.

LOL!!! I am guessing you are not familiar with Stephen Chow, if you were or knew this is a project of his you would know it would never be similar to a Disney movie.

Stephen Chow was basically China's Jim Carrey before he moved on to directing.

Chow started much earlier though. He began making TV comedies in the early 80's and was famous soon. So you should say Jim Carrey is the US' Stephen Chow.

Do you know that Chow was in the '83 version of the Condor Heroes (the most classic edition)? He had about 10 seconds of screen time in episode 1. He was a "soldier B" who got killed almost 10 seconds after showing up. He then became a beggar in a later episode and had equally little screen time.

Possibly because of Deadpool's success, Warner Bros/ DC is going to be releasing a Rated-R version of Batman vs. Superman on Blu-ray.

In other news... Pacific Rim 2 has been green lit but Guillermo Del Tor won't be directing. Steven DeKnight, the executive producer and director of the Spartacus and Daredevil TV shows will be.

Hollywood in general is trying to replicate Deadpool's success by using the 'R' rating. We are gonna get R-rated "Wolverine 3" and possibly R-rated Suicide Squad sequel. However, I don't think that the recipe for Deadpool's success is something as simple as an R rating. You still need to be a well made film for that to happen.

Hollywood will get it wrong if they think that by slapping an "R" rated sequel to an existing comic movie will improve their success similar to Deadpool, they will be sadly wrong. Deadpool (I haven't seen it yet) success was due to the movie maker staying TRUE to the comic book stories. No PC pampering in that movie.

Exactly!

In a sense it is the exact reverse of last year's "Fantastic Four", which was a shameless cash grab that tried too hard to be edgy and intellectual when the source material was silly to say the least.

They're not going to give a rated-R on a movie if it doesn't need it. The movie studios don't control the ratings system. A larger audience does go with a PG rating and they don't want to have kids sneaking into theaters and not paying. I read an article that said Mermaid got a rated-R in the US. What could be rated-R in there?

Ratings system in the U.S. is absolutely nuts!

On network TV you can show zombies graphically ripping out people's throats or people getting their limbs hacked off. But nudity and curse words? Has to be censored.
