True, but perhaps it's because we are living in a much more illustrated dark world than before. Meaning audiences have access to all kinds of daily life misery around the world with the internet and Youtube and such.

I don't think people go to a James Bond movie to be reminded of the real world but rather to escape from it. But maybe since everyone now has more access to more information about world the writers are finding it ever harder to come up with fiction that is more intriguing than fact.
