Strikes me that Lenovo would be led by the type of Chinese who criticise the CPC over the trade war and ask unironically why don’t the CPC just agree to everything the Americans want so these Chinese can go back to their homes in middle upper class neighbourhoods of America.
But it just proves how irredeemably racist Anglo American society really is. They are demanding the Chinese people to stop researching science and stop developing and improving their lives just so insecure American elites can feed their own pathetically small egos and neuroticisms.

For the sake of humanity, the boot of the Anglo Americans must be removed from the neck of humanity.

Anglo Americans just can’t help themselves. Even when they became as shocked as they were by chinas rise, they had fooled themselves with copious Copium about China collapsing. And rather than seeking truth from facts, they reject reality and substitute it with fantasy. I don’t know if it’s an indo European trait because this solipsistic conduct is very Indian of them.

I think it's reasonable to argue that the opium wars did contribute to the demise of the Qing dynasty and spur the generation that eventually overthrew the dynasty. But even if we assume the colonisation of HK did not happen, the civil war between KMT and CPC wouldn't have differed much from what actually happened. Based on that assumption, the chaotic decades of the early PRC would likely be the same even without HK being a British colony. Now considering China in the 70s & 80s didn't have a domestic entertainment and music industry that can rival HK, it would be logical to conclude the same would still be case had HK never been colonised.

As for HK being crucial to the opening up and modernisation of China, again the institutions and connections HK had with the West were important and fast tracked the development of China in no small part IMO. Of course China could have done that without HK for sure, but why was Shenzhen chosen as the first Special Economic Zone, its proximity to HK was the reason.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the above justify the unfair treaties and colonisation of HK at all. But the colonised HK did serve two useful purposes, or one if you dismiss Cantopop. Also the British did profit tremendously from that no doubt as they didn't do it out of charity.

If the colonization of HK didn’t happen, then that means the Qing defeated the British during the First Opium War since HK was the spoils of war and the main objective of the British. That also means that the Qing military was industrialized enough to defeat the British. That also means the Qing would have been ahead in or on par with the West as a whole in regards to industrialization. That also means the Century of Humiliation wouldn’t have occurred and the West wouldn’t have been strong as the Qing to begin with. That also means the CPC and KMT wouldn’t have existed since the Chinese wouldn’t be desperate enough to adopt foreign ideas. I could go on and on, but the point of the matter is that, like I said before, you ignored millions of other variables that were at play and assumed that the British colonization of HK was the sole trigger point. Funny enough, your line of thought is also found in Candide which is written by Voltaire since it is similar to the final paragraph about optimism and necessity.

Fair enough and I take your point. I guess I was looking at from the point of colonisation of HK and how things transpired since.

Agreed that in another parallel universe, this forum probably doesn't exist and China could be the hegemon which others are trying to unseat, we will never know.

Google engineer, 31, jumps to death in NYC, second worker suicide in months​

A senior software engineer at Google jumped to his death from the search giant’s headquarters in Chelsea late Thursday, according to authorities and police sources.

The 31-year-old man — whose name is being withheld pending family notification — plunged from the 14th floor of 111 Eighth Ave. around 11:30 p.m., cops said.

Police responded to multiple 911 calls of an unconscious person lying on the ground near a building on West 15th Street, opposite the 2.9 million-square-foot, 15-story Art Deco building, authorities said.

Responding cops found the man unconscious and he was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officers at the scene found handprints on the ledge of a 14th-floor open-air terrace, sources said. Investigators found no note, nor a video of the fatal plunge.

The employee’s death comes months after Jacob Pratt, a 33-year-old Google employee who also worked at the Manhattan headquarters, .
