Macron Wants China’s Help to Bring Russia, Ukraine to the Table

  • The French president aims to begin negotiations this summer
  • Macron has tasked Emmanuel Bonne to work with Beijing
Macron has tasked his foreign policy adviser Emmanuel Bonne to work with China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, to establish a framework that could be used as a basis for future negotiations, according to people familiar with the plans.
The French strategy envisions talks between Russia and Ukraine happening as soon as this summer if all goes well, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

I don’t believe that in the slightest. Just look at the timing for the negotiations which they want as soon as summer. The Ukrainian offensive is expected to happen sooner or later which the West and Ukraine has been saying for weeks they intend to use the aftermath for surrender negotiations.

How convenient that Macron was cozying up with the Chinese for negotiations which coincided with the Ukrainian offensive. Good Cop, Bad Cop Routine with the good cop (macron) offering water (EU autonomy speech) to the other side.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Tuesday that a U.S. diplomatic convoy in Sudan came under fire in what he called a “reckless” and “unacceptable” attack
The report said one Japanese woman had been raped

Well, the whole of Sudan is crumbling without Bashir as expected. The old Janjaweed death squads are targeting the Westerners and friends apparently; the US is getting its hands burnt again. But they'll be rather overstretched if they get involved with their "kinetic" solutions again, no?

I wonder what would it take to attract their attention over there instead...?

Why do you find it strange that someone would want peace talks at its peak of negotiating position?

Russia had its chance with its much-awaited offensive and it blew it, its only natural that Ukraine will be given a chance to do its offensive and see how it goes.

If it goes bad -> peace talks
If it goes ok -> peace talks with stronger hand
If it goes really good -> take off Russia's pants

Xi has been pushing for peace talks all along, its not like Macron tricked him or anything. And the peace talks wont conclude as fast as some people may think. It could easily take >6 months

The difference is that we don’t see the battlefields or the factors the same. You see it as if the Russians lost 50 trillion soldiers every week while insisting that soon the Russian economy will implode. The others see it that Ukraine is taking more losses and the West is running out of material and equipment to continue a war of attrition.

If my memory serves me correctly, Biden had said when he asked Congress last year for the second Lend-Lease for Ukraine that this money would be enough until September 2023.

So, the West and its Ukraine proxy are betting everything on this counteroffensive. And as many Western media have written, if Ukraine fails, it will be very difficult to get future funding.
