Can anyone here provide context into this alleged banning of Ramzan fasting in China as reported here:
I am not aware of any ban specifically targeting fasting by regulation or law, but I believe there is no measures (excuses) to facilitate fasting in practice. Muslims who work in a factory, or school or institution are required to carry out their duties unimpeded as non Muslims. This is impossible for someone who is not drinking and eating during working hours. This is essentially the same practice in any secular state including Europe and US, but some medias including Indian prefer to interpret it as a "ban" when it is about China.
In an extreme scenario, if the person fainted on the machine and got his hand cut off because of fasting, it is his fault. But if a person has no job in a factory or is working on his own farm, he does whatever he like including not eating.
China is a strict secular state, no religion can impose any restrictions on citizens more than the secular law does, nor can religion compel citizens to conduct less obligations than secular law requires. Religions have to get themselves adapt to the state, not the other way around.
I did hear there is a ban on minors to practice religious activities in religious facilities.
