What’s the alternative?
Passing away so she doesn’t have to bear witness to her life long failure that drove the USA to ruin, only to realise that she will have the entire after life to see every single detail of where she went wrong. This is a true example of a no win situation of her own making. She is basically ding donged no matter what she does, she might as well go out in style

The alternative is before things get that ugly make a deal with China. The terms won't be much better than an unequal treaty but China will then let US down gently much like the US did to the British Empire.

Even in this diminished state life in US won't be that bad compared to world average, that's how good her geography is, certainly much better than UK. That's assuming US stays together as a country through this transition.

If that seriously what ends up happening to us, I would totally risk solitary confinement or a even a firing squad to stick my camp commandant's baton up his a**.
Firing squad? When did you acquire this taste for luxuries? It'll probably be a savage beating behind the scene followed by public execution by short-drop hanging. Because, you know, don't want to waste bullets and rope manufacturing capacity is probably being diverted.

Okay, the yellow-camp Hongkongers and the public execution bit were just me hamming it up for black comedy. The point is, if the camp scenario actually plays out, it'll probably play out like the way it did back in WWII with Japanese-Americans and -Canadians. That is, austere camp condition, weird and "totally voluntary" loyalty pledge-signing, and aggressive recruitment campaign for soldiers (okay, I don't remember if the loyalty pledge-thing and recruitment were the case with Japanese-Canadian internments, but the austere camp location stands).

Or, you know, keep delaying and passing the time bomb to the next treasury secretary, just like everyone else.

A certain sector of Americans will probably lynch her if she did that.

They’ll feed their children to gators before they contemplate something like this.

On the whole I don't think Yellen is necessarily bad at her job. by the time she's on the job the debt situation was already out of control under Trump's spending. While Biden is in charge the only feasibly way to turn that around is to make a deal with China and she's been on the side of not doing a new cold war as opposed to Raimondo and Tai. The final decision isn't exactly up to her.

She reminds me of Littlefinger who after becoming Master of Coin and realizing Jon Arryn had let King Robert spent away all of the kingdom's surplus took on a "well we'll just borrow more from the Iron Bank, what are they going to do invade us?"

I predicted this...

My ultimate prediction: USD goes to zero by 2025 in 18 months from now
Since you are a software engineer, can you answer a simple question from me, a non-software engineer?

How come they can't just ask ChatGPT "how do we maintain US dollar as the dominant reserve currency without increasing unemployment by more than 5% and without increasing inflation by more than 10%?" and just carry out its instructions?

isn't chatGPT the supreme AI that dominates everything and is the only tech that matters according to some of the other posters here? Thanks.

Well, one factor is that in the US, basketball is one of the few ways inner city black youths can escape poverty. I'm not sure about Yugoslavia, but in China, education is the ticket to escaping poverty.

Basketball, and sports in general, remain pretty low on the priority list for both Chinese families and domestic policies.
Yes, but that only creates a captive pool rather than have an effect on absolute talent. China already has a big pool.

Klay Thompson and Steph Curry both grew up the privileged sons of NBA players, so an underclass is not an advantage.

It’s probably that the talent identification is too late and not good. Not being a priority means you still rely on these terrible talent evaluators and the cycle perpetuates itself. If you hire a coach at the professional level, it’s way too late and the guys aren’t really the best. America has these private school/sports factories like IMG Academy which are amazing relative to the crappiness of the average American public school.

A couple of asides:
Found this gem while searching to see if there are any sports private schools in China. Ah, good ol’ RFA, willing to print anything. Equality of access to education I s an evil affront to freedom!

Also, Steph Curry’s kids are 1/8 Chinese. They won’t need money, but if they get half decent at basketball and learn Mandarin, it’s money in the Bank (of China, which maybe more stable then many American Banks when they are of age).

Cant cheat the 2nd law of thermodynamics... AI is not magic... the only rule is the law of physics itself...

Money is meaningless, its all about net energy flows

Also Chatgpt is just a language model... far far from true AGI... the reason it mimics human intelligence so well is because we have a rich language and it was trained on the entire internet as its dataset. GPT is just machine learning to predict patterns, while for humans lamguage is a means of reductive mapping of our subjective inner states (qualia, NCCs, etc) which itself is objevtively external reality filtered through..

So there is external objective reality
There is subjective our perception of external reality (which itself is already a map/model)
And there is human language, a further reductive symbolic model of our sensory inner mind model

GPT and all LLM is trained to find patterns and do next-word predictions on that...

In a sense here human language is the common bridge or API between mans model of his sensory world as encoded by language and GPT is simply trained to mimic our WORDS (not us! our words is one merely reductive expression of us) by finding patterns and even by "generating its own" new patterns based on what it learned from is...

But it doesnt know anything, doesnt see anything, doesnt feel anything, its just a very good parlor trick. its a word engine, there is no"intelligence" in there at all
