At this point he's just a private citizen, so this declaration doesn't have any value.
I've heard this sentiment a lot from the older generation of Taiwanese. Unfortunately it's changing in the younger generation.
Regardless, they're not the ones in charge.

When Americans see Asian, they think Chinese. And it's America's greatest warmth and desire to see China become Spiderman's fat short goofy Asian side-kick who looks at his American superhero best friend with stars in his eyes.
That's their fantasy escape from real Chinese people like Xi whooping American ass at trade wars, tech wars, national development, Middle-Eastern diplomacy (that's a new one) and then not even picking up calls from the US president.

Why does China have to have Pakistan in SCO? I have said long ago, China and Pakistan have very good bilateral arrangement so much so that China does not need Pakistan to be in SCO (a bonus but not a must), therefor China wasn't subjected to blackmailing to accept India.
On the contrary of blaming Putin, I think it was also China's idea to pull India away from the west. Even today after India joined QUAD, the idea is still valid because India flirting with both sides makes it not trusted by anybody which is better than India being a staunch US ally. It is not only a bad partner for SCO but also bad for US. Trying to make everybody totally obedient to your desire will make you loose everybody.
