IMO China should deliver a statement backing right of French people to peacefully protest and urging French authorities to exercise restraint. Perhaps even express solidarity with the protesters. Give sanctimonious Westoids a taste of their own medicine.

China urges US to drop all additional tariffs, as Washington's trade war drags on after 5 years
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) on Thursday called on the US to cancel all additional tariffs imposed on China as soon as possible and work with the Chinese side to maintain the stability of global industrial and supply chains for the benefit of the two peoples and the world.

Shu Jueting, a MOFCOM spokesperson, made the remarks after the US International Trade Commission on March 15 released a report saying that additional US tariffs imposed under Section 301 on certain imports from China had reduced the country's imports of these products and increased its production and prices.

The report found that on average from 2018 to 2021, US importers bore nearly the full cost of these tariffs because import prices increased at the same rate as the tariffs.

US trade chief Tai says open to discussions with China

WASHINGTON, March 23 (Reuters) - U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai said on Thursday that she is open to trade conversations with Chinese officials, but the Biden administration would defend U.S. interests and was focused on investments to compete more effectively with China.

"While we continue to keep the door open to conversations with the PRC, (People's Republic of China) including on its Phase 1 agreement commitments, we must also vigorously defend our values and economic interests from the negative impacts of the PRC's unfair economic policies and practices," Tai said, referring to a two-year trade deal reached by the Trump administration in 2020.

However, her remarks did not indicate any specific plans for discussions with China's new economic team, led by Vice Premier He Lifeng.

I read some comments on weibo suggestion Katherine Tai is also a CCP Agent ;)

No, that’ll help macron cuz it’ll look like the protestors are Chinese agents. Better to wait until outright civil war before mouthing empty platitudes (and supplying arms and training to the rebels)

Highly informational and impressively unbiased minute by minute analysis of the TikTok hearings:

Overall conclusion:
“TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew has come across so far as soft-spoken, earnest and temperate — and lawmakers aren’t buying any of it. Chew has yet to find a sympathetic ear, or even a modicum of trust that he’s telling the truth, among House committee members of either party. Many appear convinced that China’s laws make it impossible for any Chinese-owned company to be trusted with Americans’ data, rendering Chew’s defenses moot.
So when Chew admits to shortcomings, as when he said TikTok’s content moderation isn’t “perfect,” they’re evidence of a problem. When he expresses anything less than certainty, as when he said he has “no evidence” that the Chinese government has ever accessed American user data, it’s taken as an admission of guilt. Likewise when he says it’s complicated, as in the question of whether any Chinese engineers have the ability to access TikTok users’ data.
And when he flatly denies something, like Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers’s (R-Wash.) claim that TikTok removes content about the Tiananmen Square massacre, lawmakers don’t believe him. (McMorris Rodgers replied by reminding him that he’s under oath.)

Instagram reels doesn't have the TikTok recommendation algorithm.

People spend far more time on TikTok than anything else.

Bravo for these sophisticated consumers for refusing to accept mediocrity.

Twitter would beat Tiktok if Trump didn’t get banned.

It looks more like out of touch and unprepared Washington apparatchiks being humiliated by the subsidiary of 1 company.

If a lot of these clips go on Tiktok as well as other social media, it'll significantly hurt the perception of competence among American leaders.

I would not be surprised if the white house will simply choose to back down and censor the fact that such an event even happened to begin with. Just like when Trump tried to ban Tiktok, the whole event was memory holed and the officials that participated were publicly derided as "trumpist" and "radical conservatives" and shoved to the back by the government.

The America branch of Bytedance are very smart, they use words to play those trust fund baby apparatchiks like a fiddle, getting them to expose their lack of worldly knowledge and ugly conservative views. This is not an easy battle for the US regime because many young Americans are tech savvy and have wide knowledge, courtesy of relatively unmoderated Internet access.
