There is a pattern I observe for decades. American thinkers always assume a government will collapse as soon as the country it rules is harmed enough. This is demonstrably not true. Both historically and by logic. When a country gets harmed, its citizens blame who harmed it, not their government. This is such a no brainer unless you are a writer at an American think tank, apparently. This is disgusting! How candidly they speak of killing and overthrowing governments.
What I find interesting is though, this kind of assertions are usually projections. And when you look at it, there is a substantial amount of people in the USA who think government should have no influence in daily life** What these people would do if the authority of the US federal government weakened? I really don't know.
**: Comically, the US gov is one of the most intrusive governments in the world outside the muslim world. It regulates everything. What you can wear, where you can drink, if you can get an abortion at all, etc...
