Iran abolishes morality police

Iran has disbanded its morality police, Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, the nation’s attorney general, confirmed on Saturday. This comes as the country has been embroiled in weeks of violent anti-government protests over the death of a young woman detained by the force.

Montazeri said that while the institution had been abolished, authorities will “continue to monitor behavioral actions at the community level.”

On Thursday, the attorney general stated that Iranian officials were reviewing whether they needed to change the law requiring women to cover their heads.

Hope all those protests dont escalate, now that they achieved some of their demands. Rabid mutts tent to not read the room.
We'll see, I'm finding a lot of cynicism online that all the Islamic Republic's going to do is incorporate ex-members of the morality police into other departments involved with security and then once the heat has died down, go about the same enforcement of Islamic morality laws.

It's a shame for a country with such an ancient history and talented population to be ruled by fanatics.

Last week, all my news feed was all about evil zzp restricting freedom because of dictator Xi's giant hunger for control of all mankind. This week, all my news feed is all about how many people will die if China loosen Covid restrictions.

The propaganda war against China is all hellbent on promoting a narrative that the government lacks legitimacy compared to Western democracy since it is inflexible and irresponsive to the will of the population, and that the products it produces such as vaccines are inferior to Western ones.

The former was already debunked since the government acquiesced to the will of the populace to loosen COVID restrictions. The latter with respective to Sinovac and Pharm being inferior to Pfizer and Moderna will likely not hold water too, since countries like Indonesia, Chile, most of the Middle-East, and Cambodia all use Chinese vaccines and have the pandemic relatively under control.

The blatant declaration of hegemonic intent has been a mask off moment for the US. Most of the world presumed that the US was attempting to preserve its hegemony through containing China, but it's nice to see the US come out and state it. "Live and let live" has never been a Western value; the crusaders mentality is foundational to their cultural psyche. In this, they share much in common with the other "convert or die" civilization - ie Islamic fundamentalists.

China, by contrast, has never been such a civilization.
China doesnt have a choice, it now better know what its up against and what it must ultimately do in order to have any chance of long term survival

A renegade colony that genocided an entire landmass to later take over the world on the way up isnt going to change habits on the way down

While speculation continues over the fate of Taiwan’s semiconductor factories in the event of an invasion by Beijing, US Ambassador O’Brien emphasises the importance of denying China the chipmaking infrastructure.

on 10 November, former US National Security Advisor Ambassador Robert O’Brien appeared to lend credence to reports the US will disable Taiwan’s semi-conductor chip manufacturing capabilities if China attempts to reunify the island with the mainland.

If China takes Taiwan and takes those factories intact – which I don’t think we would ever allow – they have a monopoly over chips the way OPEC has a monopoly, or even more than the way OPEC has a monopoly over oil,” said O’Brien.

Scorched-earth strategy

The US Army War College Press published a paper in November 2021 recommending that the US make credible threats to destroy Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) facilities, eliminating the most important supplier of micro-processing chips to China and the World.

The paper by Jared McKinley and Peter Harris, Broken Nest: Deterring China from Invading Taiwan, became the most highly downloaded paper from the US Army War College of 2021, and suggested that the US lay plans in Taiwan for a targeted scorched-earth strategy that would render the island “not just unattractive if ever seized by force, but positively costly to maintain.”

Following months of speculation over possible US contingency planning, Bloomberg reported on 7 October that plans for worst case scenarios include evacuating Taiwan’s chip engineers, citing an unnamed US official as the source of the information.

IMHO: Essentially, US far-right ideologue O'Brien and other US neocon/neolib nutjobs suggest that the US should bomb TSMC facilities and kidnap its engineers before China can acquire them via reunification.
China probably doesn't need TSMC in 5-7 years. The U.S. policymakers can keep daydreaming.

Here is the essence of the West and America's COVID policies: corporate profile > human life. You got to keep the economy humming along so corporate profile will not be affected. As for China, the policymakers will not hesitate to lock down again. So all the fearmongering about China's mass death toll in the Western media is just a pipe dream.

If all you have is a hammer, then every problem you face may start to look like a nail. All the U.S. can do to China is threatening it militarily, with the AUKUS and a few Asian lackeys in tow.

On the other hand, China promotes trade, accelerates development, and increases prosperity through the BRI, RCEP, AIIB, APEC, ASEAN, and BRICS - a win-win for everyone involved.
