Rumors of defection by Dong JingWei seems to be true? If true, this is equivalent to the Deputy Director of FBI defecting to China, and will likely send shock waves throughout the CCP.

if this defection rumor is not true, why not have Dong make a public speech in China. Given all the media coverage, why not squash this rumor by having Dong come out publicly somewhere in China.

Also, if true then the questions becomes did Dong defect suddenly or was he actually a long time mole within the Chinese MSS???

Any particular reason you think the rumours are true or otherwise? I'm not trying to be a smart ass here I'm being genuine. Other than the statement that is said to be from Dong we don't know anything further at this point. But if more info has come to light I'll be very interested in seeing.

Suppose it's not true, and indeed proving that he is still in China be "another major blow to the integrity of international think tanks, media and intelligence analysts", why would it be in China's interest to discredit such think tanks and intelligence analysts? If indeed they've been feeding the political elites such laughably bad intelligence than surely it would be in China's interest to NOT discredit them and let them to continue feeding bad intel so that the US government make bad policies on such bad intel?

Why would a high ranking official bother to dispel rumors perpetuated by absolute scum? Its beneath him

Not sure what you mean. Dong had already shown himself on Friday to defuse the rumor. I don't think China would bother if not due to the fact the MSM trying to link Dong defection with Wuhan lab leaking theory.

That was a statement that’s reportedly made by Dong. Don’t know for sure when that statement was made.

But since the rumors started, Dong has not made any public appearances. That’s the best way to squash the rumors - yet nothing

I don't believe Dong has ever made a public appearance? Like there are no photos of him at all on the internet. He is after all part of the MSS.

Kim didn't come out when CIA claimed he is dead. Xi didn't bother to come out when the Western MSM claimed he was sidelined. Why would you care so much about these MSM rumors? Dong's appearance on TV is enough to defuse rumors within China.

Plenty of pictures

That makes zero sense. But if Dong did defect, you can’t really keep high level defections like this a secret.

Eventually he needs to be shown by US or China.

Except Kim did come out. CIA never claimed he was dead, lol. It was a North Korean defector that lived in South Korea that first initiated that rumor.

CIA never talks about actual defections until years later.

The same applies to the recent nuclear scientist that reportedly fell off a building?? Really.

A respected scientist, near retirement, with good state pension just jumps or falls off of a building. Right.

Or did he leak stories about fuel rod crack and was under pressure from the CCP for being a whistle blower.
