Generally when you see PRC folks climbing over the GFW and show up in western internet they tend to fall into the two extremes. They are either despondent people unsatisfied with their life and venting, in which case CPC is a convenient target. Or they are middle class and well off enough and curious enough that they have the spare time and interest to see the outside internet. The second group when they see the first group and their extreme self-hate then generally becomes more pro-CPC.
So places like china_irl and twitter are ripe for flame war since the population is self-selecting to be on either end of the spectrum. Majority of people who are in the middle don't bother with getting a VPN.
You see this in particular on twitter/X, where you always hear people say they're only here for the soft core porn but all the retardation is subconsciously making them into patriots.
