The China Association for Science and Technology has announced that it will not provide funding for scholars to attend the 2026 NeurIPS conference, and papers accepted by NeurIPS will not be recognized in applications for CAST projects.

The Chinese Association of Automation has remove NeurIPS from its *List of Recommended Academic Conferences*.

The China Computer Federation (CCF) also announced that if NeurIPS does not correct its errors, it will be removed from the recommended list.

At the same time, a large number of Chinese scholars have announced that they will not attend the NeurIPS conference or serve as reviewers for NeurIPS. Half of NeurIPS’s participants and research contributions come from China.

The decoupling of academia has also begun
It’s turning into quite the drama, the conference arrangers are in full damage control:

in fact no Chinese scientist should be visiting the U.S. in this environment

When a Self-Defense Forces officer sneaked into the Chinese embassy with a knife, the first reaction from Japan’s far-right was, “Is he a naturalized Chinese?” When the answer was no, they shouted "Banzai!" and sang songs of the Meiji Restoration to bid him farewell.

When a knife attack occurred at a Pokémon store in Ikebukuro, the first reaction from Japan’s far-right was again, “Oh, is he a naturalized Chinese?”

JIBA is just as brain-dead as MAGA.
It goes without saying that heightened caution for Chinese when travelling to Japan nowadays is a must,as this "crazy-Jap-lashing-out" syndrome will only intensify when Japan grinds to a dead-stop economically/socially and Chinese will automatically be blamed-guns may not be available but kitchen knives/kerosine/gas certainly are and self-defense wise ,situational-awareness is the key to self-defense itself

It's because of people like this that Xi Jinping instituted patriotic education.

Important to realize that prior to Xi, Jiang Zemin spent almost two decades as the most powerful Chinese leader either directly or behind the scenes, and Jiang not only tolerated but encouraged Shanghai distinctiveness as a cosmopolitan and global city. So of course, Shanghainese identity would become stronger under Jiang and his powerful Shanghai clique.

Ever since Xi took over, the Shanghai clique has been frozen out of power. Some Shanghainese have responded by becoming even more radical in their "localism," but the tide of history is turning against them as more & more people in Shanghai no longer speak Shanghainese, as the youth receive patriotic education. Because of Shanghai's economic role, it's likely there will always be a sense of Shanghai superiority. But it'll become more like other countries' cities identity than what it was before, and the Chinese government can facilitate that transition by relaxing residency laws.
Yeah because before he took power Chinese academia was just pro western brainwashing like in the early republican era.

Guys guys, what if the whole ground invasion of Iran really is a smokescreen, and next week we wake one day to news that the 82nd and 101st have been airdropped into Greenland and now Greenland is American?

That specific scenario seems farfetched but, more broadly, I don't know why so many are referring to Washington's desire to annex Greenland in the past tense. Just because Trump was momentarily distracted by a new and shiny bauble to conquer doesn't meant that he won't be back. If anything, having his ambitions frustrated in Iran is likely to make him even more dangerous elsewhere.
