Japan has no resilience in terms of resources, and predictions about Japan are wildly wrong.
Japan's self-sufficiency rates in food, energy, and even fertilizer are alarmingly low. From any perspective, Japan simply cannot withstand trade embargoes.
You're not fantasizing that Western countries would risk severing trade ties with China to support Japan's nuclear weapons research, are you?
Furthermore, China holds a monopoly on many industrial products. Even if the rest of the world doesn't cooperate with China in sanctioning Japan, China alone can bring Japanese industry to a standstill.
Japan acquiring nuclear weapons is completely unacceptable to China; you shouldn't doubt China's seriousness about this matter.

The Japanese reporter tried to criticize Trump for not informing allies before the surprise attack on Iran. Trump didn't address the question itself, but instead brought up World War II, stating bluntly that no one knew how to launch a surprise attack better than Japan!
This exchange clearly shows that Japan and the United States are not on equal footing. Japan's nuclear weapons threaten more than just China, so the United States will not allow such a country to possess nuclear weapons. The idea that Western countries would support Japan in possessing nuclear weapons is pure wishful thinking.

Japan is a very resilient civilization throughout thousands of years like Jiang said. China cannot control, blockade, defeat or get rid of Japan. History similarly repeat and rhyme itself in the past and future. The biggest threat to Japan is the Mongol empire which had failed twice trying to conquer them.
China biggest power move is to sanction Japan but Japan doesn't perceived that as the biggest threat to them. In conclusion Japan and China will live co-existentially as major powers.

Before the Industrial Revolution, Japan's biggest obstacle to maintaining independence was the sea, but that obstacle is no longer insurmountable today.
Please take a look at Japan's current food, fertilizer, and fuel prices. The Strait of Hormuz alone is already causing Japan considerable trouble. Can you imagine what Japan's situation would be like after an fuel embargo?
Japan is already living under American colonial rule, so why do you still believe Japan cannot be controlled, defeated, or blockaded? Japan was almost completely destroyed by bombing at the end of World War II; why do you still see Japan as invincible?
Based on China's views and their military pacifist attitude, China won't blockade any countries except Taiwan. In war exercise, China had only blockade Taiwan, but there's no attempt to practice surrounding Japan. China has a shipping lane as far as South America and Africa which China cannot protect.. It is a risky play if China wants to blockade Japan.
China is a military pacifist. They won't attack Japan even if they are building a nuke right now. Japan will survive. It is an civilization that had lasted thousands of years. The future is the same. Japan is a pain in the ass to China but they will not go away.
You guys are all wrong about Prof Jiang. His predictions about China’s future diminishment and Japan’s rise is a gambit from the Chinese intel agencies to soothe western/japanese fears about China’s rise. He also predicts the US also diminishing to give him some semblance of non-bias and credibility. He could very well be comrade Gordon Chang’s personal disciple. I’m not even sure if I’m joking or not anymore…
China has made it clear that if Japan attempts militarization, China will invoke the "enemy state clause" to strike Japan.
Japan's naval capabilities are far inferior to China's. Only its submarines can pose some initial threat, but these are existing military forces, and once depleted, they cannot be restored.
China doesn't even need to surround Japan with warships; any cargo ship daring to approach Japan will be sunk. Modern warfare is not like World War II!
