What kind of a leader speaks this way about a foreign country? India's lack of self-respect is pathetic. These people once happily enslaved their citizens and treated them like trash, and now that they're finally free to decide their own destiny, they turn around and willingly submit themselves to those same people. Perfect case of Stockholm Syndrome.
This is the problem with India. They're incredibly patriotic and nationalistic, but only when it comes to certain matters. As soon as European-associated countries enter the equation, they immediately melt into a gooey, groveling puddle of self-loathing and white-worship.
Indians often cite their ‘peaceful’ independence as evidence to the superiority of their model and system, especially compared to China. That they managed to get for ‘free’ what China paid so dearly for in blood.
The analogy that most easily comes to mind is someone who bought a fake degree laughing at someone else who studied hard and earned their degree. Claiming that they are better off for not having spent the same kind of time, money and effort to get the ‘same’ outcome.
While that argument might appear to have some merit at the most superficial of levels, the reality is that just as with a degree, the true value of independent and liberation comes from the changes it forces on you as a people and ultimately nation, that going through the struggle of fighting for your liberation and independence brings about. It weeds out the weak willed, exposes turncoats and traitors, it is hyper-evolution of national spirit. The people who rise through the ranks in such a dangerous and challenging times are not living saints, but they are the very best of us. That is why founding fathers achieve so much and are so fundamental in shaping the nations that follows.
By not going through the struggle for Independence, India never distilled its people and forged them into a new nation, it’s leaders are of the old guard who served the British so effectively in subjugating their own, and indeed were often the very same people who helped the British rule. The very essence of changing the soup but not changing the ingredients and expecting something better.
From a cultural and values people of view, modern India is little different from Colonial India. The only real changed is the colour of the skin of the people making the same arrogated imperialistic decisions, a more perfect embodiment of skin deep change you will truly struggle to find.
And all of that is just on the people side, the British made sure to leave poised pills when they left that ultimately lead to the partitioning of India and the creation of Pakistan and Bangladesh, as well as sowing the seeds for sectarian hatred between Hindus and Muslims that are still bearing bitter fruits to this day.
So yes, sure, India got the better deal.
But the main point is people should not be fooled by the colour of their skin. The leadership caste of India might have brown skin, but at their heart, they are exactly the same shade of gammon as their former colonial masters. Modern India is modern and Indian in name only. Think of them and treat them as a mildly rebranded British East India Company and you won’t be far off.
