Remains to be seem, like Cuba and other places, the hardships created by US economic sanctions usually backfire by forcing the opposition to the government to migrate out of the country leaving behind the loyalists and the apathetic behind, making "regime change" very very difficult. So the only option that US have is military force and in the case of Iran only a bloody ground invasion.
But remains to be seem.

Nah, the West at the beginning was even supportive of the revolution. Jimmy Carter back then asked the Iranian army to back off in favor of Khomeini when they wanted to stage a coup. Khomeini who famously said „economics is for donkeys“. The regime is extremely corrupt and mismanaged the economy to the greatest extent possible. The water crisis for example was done entirely by themselves.

Iranian regime was extremely unpopular in the past as well. Now, the people have nothing to lose and that‘s why we are seeing massive death tolls and riots.
