That is true, it will be hard going forward, but customer service is not everything in service economy. My main point is that India's growth need not be necessarily seen as a threat, it depends on which direction they take in developing their economy.

Another point I'd make is that India likes to model it's society after western capitalist democracy. Therefore they will also follow the western societies pattern of economic development leading to capital consolidation, social stratification and eventually end-stage capitalism with oligarchy. It is the same trap most developing countries eventually fell into and stagnated, the question is how far along they will go before it happens.

AI and robots will be taking jobs from India's service and manufacturing industries. They will not be able to fully develop their economy.

Very flattering and true article. It basically says that China's so good at making things and so good at climbing the value chain that soon, China will make the best of everything in the world and the West will have nothing that China wants in trade. Tech-wise, that's true. But realistically, they can still trade us banana republic stuff, train-loads and ship-loads of agricultural products (wholesome, organic, non-GMO, all those fancy buzzwords that hippies like) for a couple of our machines. Then they can show off their fancy Chinese appliances and cars that only rich Westerners can afford and the poorer ones can yearn to one day be good enough to use Chinese things but have to settle for domestic or third world junk. Meanwhile, these Chinese machines are standard issue in all Chinese homes and Chinese people will make fun of the West for being poor, trading half a month's food production and starving themselves to afford something the average Chinese person may lay outside on the curb when moving. That'll be sweet full circle.

A large part India's post COVID growth is due to getting more women into the workforce.


In 2005, Indian female labor participation rate was 35%, dropping to 26% in 2019 and rising to 33% in 2024.


For comparison, China's at 60%, US at 57%, Japan at 55%.


The drop from 2005 to 2020 can be partially attributed to losing majority of their textile industry to Bangladesh (lol)


India's fertility rates are dropping (1.9 TFR currently) even when woman aren't working. If India continues pushing more women into the workforce, expect the TFR to drop even more.


Also, Indian Muslims have more kids than the Hindus, this has Hindutvas freaking out with their Hindu replacement conspiracy theories
